Paving in Bar Nunn
Asphalt paving in Bar Nunn happens on one of the more unusual town plans in Wyoming. Bar Nunn was built around the runways of Wardwell Field, Casper's original airport, which served the region until 1952. The old runways now form the town's street pattern. Rancher and businessman Romie Nunn bought back 640 acres of the airport property in 1954 for $20,500 and subdivided it in 1958, and the town carries his name.
A fast-growing town
Bar Nunn had 936 residents in 2000, 2,213 in 2010 and 2,981 in 2020. In 2006 it led Wyoming in population growth with an estimated 18.6 percent increase in a single year. Much of its housing is newer, often with large shops and room for trailers and RVs.
Shops, pads and long drives
Shop aprons, RV pads and long drives are common here. Those carry heavier loads than a typical driveway and need a thicker base and asphalt section. We ask what will use each area and size it accordingly.
Wind and open ground
At about 5,285 feet on open ground north of Casper, Bar Nunn gets plenty of wind and sun. Wind blows snow into drifts across driveways and carries grit across pavement. Sun dries out unsealed asphalt. Seal coat and crack filling keep it in shape.
Newer driveways
For driveways that are only a few years old, the best investment is maintenance: crack filling before winter and seal coat every few years.
Town permits
Bar Nunn is its own town, with a mayor and council. Changes where a drive meets a Bar Nunn street are the town's call, and we ask before planning them.
Streets on old runways
Because the street pattern follows the old runway layout, some Bar Nunn lots sit at unusual angles or have long frontages. That can mean wider driveways or longer aprons than usual. We measure carefully and lay out the drive so it drains and meets the street cleanly.
